The ISC works with people in Kanehsatake to support their opposition to continued colonial encroachment on their community. Currently, this encroachment takes the form of projects proposed by a land developer and a mining company.Norfolk Finances is attempting to built luxury housing near the Pines, the forest that the people of Kanehsatake stood up to defend in 1990.
Niocan Inc has been attempting to develop a niobium mine on the traditional territory of of the community for a number of years. Working with local farmers who are also threatened by the environmental effects of the mine, the community is standing firm in their opposition to the project.
